Welcome Letter

Greetings to the Mighty Fighting Falcon Fans!

On behalf of my family and myself, I would like to say how excited I am to be back in the Maroon & Gold!  I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve the Los Fresnos community, a place I called ‘home’ from kindergarten until 12th grade and then taught and coached at for 13 years.

I want to thank The Falcon Family, especially Dr. Gonzalo Salazar and the school board of trustees, for trusting me to lead our athletic program. There is no doubt that our teams are energized by our Mighty Fighting Falcon Fans.  It goes without saying that your support and enthusiasm is equally vital to the success of our football program.  I hope everyone is as excited as I am about the upcoming 2021 season.  During this off-season we will speak to our team about Falcon tradition as we strive to honor the past, celebrate the present, and look to the future with hope.

One of the key reasons Los Fresnos has been able to build a successful program and have a rich tradition is through the passion and fervor of our fans and, especially, our students over the past 90 years.  We are fortunate to have one of the finest stadiums and football atmospheres in Texas and our students play a critical role in terms of the fun and festive environment they help create on game days.  I truly believe that Leo Aguilar Stadium is one of the most challenging places to play in all of the Rio Grande Valley.  Your voice makes an enormous impact on how our team responds each Friday night by creating an atmosphere that is tough on opposing teams.

The Falcon football program would not have enjoyed past successes without the investment of our students, alumni, staff, and fans who have made Los Fresnos CISD such a special place. I appreciate all the support I have received so far by so many of this school district and community, and look forward to working hard with you to make this community proud!

Respectfully, Coach David Cantu
