The 2025 Athletic Hall of Honor Inductees

Los Fresnos CISD is proud to announce the inaugural class of inductees into the Athletic Hall of Honor. The 2025 class will be formally recognized at a ceremony on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Los Fresnos CISD Performing Arts Center.
 
The Athletic Hall of Honor was established in 2025 to recognize and preserve the history of excellence in Falcon athletics. Its purpose is to honor former student-athletes, coaches, and teams who have achieved extraordinary success, demonstrated exceptional character, and brought distinction to Los Fresnos CISD through their accomplishments on and off the field. Each year, inductees will be selected who embody the spirit of determination, teamwork, and leadership that defines the Falcon tradition.

Football team 1964

1964 Falcon Football Team


The 1964 Falcon Football Team, led by head coach Earl Gartman, made history as one of the most accomplished squads in program history. They earned the titles of District Tri-Champion, Bi-District Champion, and Regional Champion, advancing all the way to the State Quarterfinals. That season also marked the Falcons’ first-ever 10-win season—a milestone that has only been matched six times since.

 

 

 
 
2014 Volleyball Team

2014 Lady Falcon Volleyball Team


The 2014 Lady Falcon Volleyball Team, led by head coach Becky Woods, set the standard for excellence with one of the most successful runs in program history. They captured the titles of District Co-Champion, Bi-District Champion, Area Champion, and Regional Quarterfinal Champion, finishing as Regional Semi-Finalists. With an impressive 37 wins, this team’s legacy remains one of determination, skill, and teamwork.

 

 
 
Cornia Cox - Inductee

Corina Cox – Class of 2013


A standout Track & Field student-athlete for the Falcons, Corina Cox left her mark on Los Fresnos and beyond. She is a school and Rio Grande Valley record holder in the discus, a three-time State Qualifier, and twice finished in the Top 5 at the UIL State Meet, earning a silver medal her senior year. At the collegiate level, she excelled at Troy University, where she became a Division I record holder and was named a 2nd Team All-American.  Currently, Cori is a Scientific Research Assistant and Doctorial Candidate at the University of Bremen in Germany.

Leonel Garza – Class of 1968


One of the most decorated quarterbacks in Falcon history, Leonel Garza was a four-year letterman who, as a freshman quarterback, helped Los Fresnos score nearly 45 points per game on the 1964 32-2A Tri-District championship team that finished 11-2 and went three rounds deep in the playoffs.  During his JR and SR seasons, the Garza-led Falcons went on to win district titles in ’66 and ’67.  Special honors earned included All-District honors three times, All-Valley twice, All-State recognition in 1967, Honorable Mention All-American honors, and Leonel was inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.  In addition to football, he competed in basketball and track and field for Los Fresnos. His athletic career continued at the collegiate level, where he spent two successful years at Trinity University in San Antonio before transferring to Livingston University in Alabama, where he was part of a NAIA national championship football team.  Currently, Leonel, who is affectionally known as “Coach”, is retired from a 30 year career in education and athletics that included stints as the Athletic Director in Brownsville and Los Fresnos.  As a head coach who totaled 86 wins at two schools, Leonel guided Brownsville Pace for seven years, won 45 games and guided the Vikings to a district title in 1983.  In the same role for the Los Fresnos for six years, Coach led the Falcons to 41 wins and an outright district championship in 1996.  After retirement, Coach served as a LFCISD School Member for 17 years.

 
 
Javier Medina - Inductee

Javier Medina – Class of 1990


Javier Medina was a standout track and field hurdler who left an impressive legacy at Los Fresnos. A four-year letterman, he was a two-time State Qualifier and placed in the Top 5 at State his senior year. He set the school record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 38.34 seconds, a mark that stands, to this day, as the best in program history. Medina also lettered in football for the Falcons before competing collegiately at Texas A&I University–Kingsville from 1990 to 1993.  Currently, Javier works as a Physical Education Coach at Evins Regional Juvenile Center in Edinburg, where he helps instill structure, discipline, teamwork, and self confidence in his students.

 

 

 

 

 
 
Cathi Netermeyer - Inductee

Cathi Netemeyer – Class of 2000


A true multi-sport star, Cathi Netemeyer excelled in track and field, volleyball, basketball, and softball for Los Fresnos. She earned four varsity letters in track and field, setting school records in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump, and qualifying for State in the long jump. She was also an All-State All-Star selection in volleyball and the All-Valley MVP in basketball, where she played in the San Antonio All-Region All-Star Game. Netemeyer continued her career at the collegiate level, first with the Division I Iowa Hawkeyes, where she was a one-year starter, and later at UT Pan American, where she was a three-year starter.  Currently, Cathi is the Director of External Initiatives at The University of Louisiana Monroe.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
 
Jeremy Springer - Inductee
Jeremy Springer – Class of 2007

Jeremy Springer excelled both on and off the field as a three-year letterman and Top 10 graduate. Named the 2006 District 32-5A MVP, he set school records for most passing touchdowns in a season (42) and most total touchdowns in a season (57), while also earning Honorable Mention All-State honors. Springer went on to start at inside linebacker for UTEP as a junior and senior, serving as team captain his final year. His coaching career has included roles at UTEP, Texas A&M, Arizona, and Marshall, and he is currently the Special Teams Coordinator for the NFL’s New England Patriots, after previously serving as Assistant Special Teams Coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams.
 
 
Jeremy Springer - Inductee

Justin Springer – Class of 2007


A defensive force for the Falcons, Justin Springer was a three-year letterman, Top 10 graduate, and two-year team captain. In 2006, he was named the District 32-5A Defensive MVP and earned Associated Press 3rd Team All-State honors. He continued his career at the University of Kansas, where he played in the Orange Bowl as a freshman and later started at inside linebacker during his junior and senior seasons. After his collegiate playing days, Springer built a 10 career in athletics as an NCAA Division I Strength and Conditioning Coach at Kansas, Rutgers, and the University of Arizona.  Currently Justin serves as the Cardiology Sales Manager for iRhythm Technologies in San Diego.

 

 

 

 

 

 
 
Coach Scott Ford - Inductee

Coach Scott Ford


During his seven years as head coach of the Los Fresnos Falcons, Scott Ford established himself as one of the most successful leaders in program history. He compiled a 65–19 record at LFHS and 144–76 overall in his career. Under his guidance, the Falcons reached the third round of the playoffs for three consecutive years, recorded four of the school’s seven all-time 10-win seasons, and achieved three undefeated regular seasons. He also set program records for the most area playoff victories (three) and remains one of the most decorated coaches in Falcon football history.
